Webinar Meighan Oct. 22

Ce webinaire a pour objectif de discuter autour des travaux de Paul J. Meighan – Independent Researcher (PhD, McGill University, 2023).

This webinar explores how colonialingual ideologies continue to shape expectations around pronunciation, accent, and phonological “norms” in language education. Drawing on the framework of transepistemic language education, we will consider how dominant European languages and their rules marginalize Indigenous, minority, and regional varieties. The discussion will highlight how accentism and hegemonic phonological expectations reinforce historical biases, including within teacher training. By rethinking epistemological assumptions, we can uncover the colonial roots of linguistic hierarchies. Participants are invited to reflect critically on how these dynamics shape language teaching in France and beyond.
